Boon Laboratory

Welcome to the Boon lab

We are present at two locations in Europe:

  • At the Institute for Cardiovascular Regeneration at the Center for Molecular Medicine on the Goethe university clinic campus in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
  • At the Department of Physiology of the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

We are also part of the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK) and the German laboratory is (co-)funded by a DZHK Professorship for RNA Therapeutics.

Our laboratory is focused on studying the role of long non-coding RNA in cardiovascular aging.

News

November 2021, Caroline Kohnle won the Aletta Jacobs Memorial Award for best presentation at the Joint Vascular Biology meeting organized by the German Society for Microcirculation and Vascular Biology and the Netherlands Vascular Biology Organisation on 3-5 November 2021 in Göttingen, Germany. Caroline gave an excellent presentation about her work on the role of the aging-regulated lncRNA MIRIAL in endothelial cell function. Congratulations!

October 2021, Tatjana Josefs won the award for best presentation at the 7th annual ACS symposium in the Compagnietheater in Amsterdam, for her excellent presentation about the role of aging in the development of atherosclerosis. Congratulations!

July 2019, The Council for Basic Cardiovascular Research of the European Society of Cardiology awarded the 2019 Outstanding Achievement Award to Reinier Boon. He receives this award in recognition of his contribution to cardiovascular basic science in recent years, including his work on unraveling the molecular mechanisms that control cardiovascular aging. The award will be officially presented at the ESC Congress in Paris in September 2019.

July 2018, Kosta Theodorou receives a prestigious Rubicon grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). He will be funded for a two year research project aimed at deciphering the role of long non-coding RNAs in regulating age-induced alterations in endothelial cell metabolism. Congratulations!

March 2018, Laura Stanicek (left) wins the Young Investigator Award at the Dutch-German Meeting of the molecular cardiology working groups. This conference was held in Amsterdam and Laura gave an excellent oral presentation about the endothelial lncRNA Lassie. Congratulations!

November 2017, Laura Stanicek (left) wins the Young Investigator Award for her outstanding oral presentation about the lncRNA Lassie in endothelial cell barrier function. She competed at the Netherlands Vascular Biology Organization annual meeting. Congratulations!

March 2017, Dorotée Julia Trembinski wins the Young Investigator Award at the Dutch-German Meeting of the cardiology work groups in Münster. Julia gave an excellent oral presentation about the lncRNA Sarrah that regulates cardiac function. Congratulations!
